The Author
Rev. Woods was born in Birmingham, Alabama to Rev. Calvin W. Woods, Sr. and the late Lucille Grayson Woods. He is the pastor of the Greater Liberty Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is married to Constance Craig Woods and they have one daughter, Crystal DeAun Woods. He graduated from A.H. Parker High School in Birmingham and he received a B.A. degree in Political Science from Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama. Additionally, he received a Master’s of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees in Christian Education respectively from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (New Orleans, Louisiana). He is a writer of Christian education, literacy, and patriotic books and songs. He also served in his community as the former Spiritual Life Advisor of the New Orleans Public School PTA before Hurricane Katrina. The First Vice President of the First District Baptist Association, Director of the Louisiana Baptist Youth Encampment, Instructor for the Louisiana Baptist State Congress of Christian Education, member of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., Senior Advisor of the Matthew McGary, Sr. Scholarship Foundation, and the President & CEO of Amazing Grace Enterprise, Inc. and Bookie Book Campaign (a motivational literacy program). Rev. Woods takes pride in writing this book in honor of his father, deceased mother, brothers, and sisters, uncle, family members, and friends who still labor in the Civil Rights movement in Birmingham, New Orleans and across the country.
